Bonaventure
Author: Charlotte Hastings
Director: Richard Bond
The year is 1947 and convicted murderess Sarat Carn is being transported to Norwich to be executed, when the Great Dyke breaks and floods the Fen country. Together with prison officials, she is trapped at the Our Lady of Rheims convent, where homeless villagers are being housed. In spite of the damning circumstantial evidence, Sister Mary Bonaventure is certain of Sarat’s innocence and against the Reverend Mother's wishes she perseveres in trying to save her from the gallows - is she right and if so will she succeed? There is both comedy and tension in this well written play, set against the historical background of the great floods that occurred in March 1947 when because of the severe weather a dyke was breached and many people were made homeless.
